Il Centro di Cultura Sociale e di Ricerche Archeologiche, Storiche e Ambientali di Giuggianello nasce per rispondere a un’esigenza fondamentale: promuovere la conoscenza, la tutela e la valorizzazione del patrimonio storico, archeologico, ambientale e culturale del territorio.
La domanda centrale a cui intendiamo rispondere è: come riattivare nelle comunità locali, e in particolare nei giovani, un senso di appartenenza e responsabilità verso il proprio territorio, favorendo al contempo la ricerca, la memoria e la partecipazione attiva?
In un’epoca in cui le piccole realtà rischiano di essere dimenticate, il nostro Centro vuole diventare un punto di riferimento per chi desidera riscoprire la storia e l’identità di questa parte del Salento, spesso poco valorizzata.
Operiamo per colmare la distanza tra saperi accademici e conoscenze popolari, tra istituzioni e cittadini, tra passato e futuro. Lo facciamo attraverso attività di ricerca, iniziative divulgative, percorsi educativi, laboratori, pubblicazioni e momenti di confronto aperti alla cittadinanza.
Il bisogno a cui rispondiamo è quindi anche culturale e sociale: creare occasioni di incontro, dialogo e crescita, restituendo centralità alla cultura come strumento di coesione e sviluppo sostenibile.
Crediamo che la cura del patrimonio passi dalla consapevolezza e dalla condivisione, e che solo rafforzando il legame tra le persone e i luoghi sia possibile costruire comunità più resilienti, inclusive e partecipi.
La Regione Puglia - Assessorato al Mediterraneo - Settore Attività Culturali - con nota AC / 4548 / D del 6 dicembre 2006 ha notificato il provvedimento dirigenziale n.198 del 30 novembre 2006, col quale si disponeva liscrizione del Centro nel Registro delle Personalità Giuridiche private della Regione Puglia.
Con successiva nota del 19 dicembre u.s. la Presidenza della Giunta Regionale ha reso noto lavvenuta iscrizione al n. 271 del suddetto Registro.
L'impegno e l'abnegazione di tutti i soci hanno coronato un percorso di trenta anni teso a rinsaldare la nostra identità culturale e a dar voce alla nostra storia e al nostro territorio con i suoi Beni Culturali.
Tutto ciò ci rende orgogliosi e ci carica di responsabilità, spronandoci a proseguire nell'impegno di sempre con serietà, coerenza ed entusiasmo mettendo in campo la nostra passione verso la riscoperta della nostra storia, la tutela e la salvaguardia del patrimonio culturale e ambientale.
Come previsto dalla normativa vigente, con la dichiarazione dei redditi si può destinare il 5 per mille dell'IRPEF al Centro di Cultura di Giuggianello sostenendo, così, le attiività e i progetti in campo dei beni culturali, del sociale e della cultura in generale previsti nella programmazione annuale stabilita.

A NEW LOGO FOR A GREAT STORY
Upon reaching its forty-second year of activity, the Center is changing its logo.
The symbol chosen is the tree of life, separated by a griffin and a feline, as a sign of good luck for the years to come and as a reference to the past, identity, and authenticity. A tree cannot grow and become strong without strong roots and someone to care for it.
The tree of life is a decoration engraved on the outside of a silver alloy spoon, for liturgical use, found during the excavations at the Casale Quattromacine in Iuggianello conducted by the University of Salento (1992-1996) by the team of Prof. Paul Arthur, below the floor level, near an altar of the Byzantine church.
At the foot of the altar, various objects clearly linked to the liturgy were found, such as two teaspoons, one made of a silver alloy and decorated, and a second in iron, a small spear, as well as a large number of glass fragments.
The silver alloy spoon is decorated on the inside with two opposing fish, connected by a string of pearls coming out of their mouths.
This discovery is considered unique in its kind by scholars as it is the first time that liturgical objects have been found in front of the table where they were presumably stored, supporting the theory that the church and its liturgical equipment were abandoned in a
sudden.
In addition to its religious significance, the decoration also has a symbolic value: in the Eastern world, the leafy tree, which is the representation of life, connects heaven and earth, while the theme of the lion and the griffin placed facing each other and divided by a plant represent the resurrection or ascension.
The building, covered with a rich series of frescoes, appears to have undergone at least two phases of construction: the first can be dated to the 10th-11th century, the second, however, to the late 13th century and seems to have been built mainly to conserve the remains of an individual who died around the age of 30/35, placed in a privileged position in front of the altar.
The ambition is to lead the Association forward into the future, all together, with renewed enthusiasm.
